To address the challenges of changing patient care and technological advancements, two regional hospitals joint ventured to construct a new outpatient magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) center. The site faces a busy street at the edge of a neighborhood of residences and small scale commercial buildings.
A strong linear orientation provides a distinctive appearance along the street and pitched roofs relate to the neighborhood scale. The orientation and layout of the building eliminated the need for magnetic shielding resulting in significant cost savings. Interior spaces are organized along the naturally lit circulation spine with views extending out to a private courtyard.
