The major design challenge of this 27,000 square foot addition was meeting the complex functional and circulation requirements of a new Heart Center while maximizing advantages of adjacency to the emergency trauma center and radiology department. Program elements include four cardiac catheterization rooms with support services, non-invasive services (EKG, Holter, stress testing, Echo, and nuclear medicine), education and administrative services.
The building fronts an active street and the first floor is open and welcoming. In addition to the functional provisions, the Heart Center provides an environment that is comfortable and stress relieving. The focal point of the second floor is the central waiting room topped with a tall light scoop that gathers natural light to illuminate the space below.
