The Vidalia Riverfront Authority aspired to restore their reclaimed riverfront which had been used for years by the Army Corps of Engineers as a staging area to fabricate enormous concrete mats used to stabilize the Mississippi River banks. The design of the master plan and park elements sought to reconnect the town to the river and recapture its colorful river town heritage.

A one mile long riverwalk punctuated by light standards with historical banners, shade structures, and overlook plazas, focuses on a new landmark for the town, Fountain Plaza. Two piers frame Fountain Plaza and extend out over the river. Above each pier, a combination of perforated and expanded metal panels step up and flow over the tower, which recall the framing of the nearby twin bridges that span over the river. A sprinkling of fountains provides a cool refuge for neighborhood children on hot days.
