LSU at Alexandria has a distinguished history of providing quality higher education opportunities to the Central Louisiana community. To meet the demands of this growing university, the new 70,000 square feet Multi-Purpose Academic Center (MPAC) was constructed, the first new campus building in almost 30 years.

The placement of the new building, fronting the tree-filled quadrangle, conforms to the campus master plan and reinforces pedestrian connections to adjacent buildings. This pedestrian focus will be further strengthened with the construction of a new plaza between MPAC and the recently refurbished Student Center (also by ABW), scheduled for completion in 2012. The building responds to the scale of the existing campus by stepping down in form from its three story height to a one story height fronting the quadrangle.

The interior is organized around a two story atrium, with generous natural light provided by north facing glazing. Program elements include a 175 seat black box theater and associated support spaces, studio spaces for the various arts programs, classrooms, and 58 faculty offices.
