Over the past decade Louisiana Tech University has enjoyed not just a growth in student enrollment, with an emphasis on academic excellence, but is also gaining recognition as a leading research university in the South. Tech’s commitment to the enrichment of the total collegiate experience is further reflected in the construction of almost 1,000 new beds of student housing and the $11.5 million expansion of the Lambright Intramural Sports Center, both of which are adjacent to Tech’s football stadium and baseball park.
The design team developed a master plan for the development of Tech’s Athletic and Student Recreation Complex, which includes the existing Joe Aillet Stadium and the Thomas Assembly Center. The master plan focuses on the creation of a park-like setting for all facilities and sports fields, and associated parking, within easy walking distance of each other as well as taking advantage of the proximity to the new student housing and intramural center. The stadium becomes the centerpiece of the sports complex, with new plazas designed to enhance the game day experience and encourage tailgating. New facilities will include a $12 million expansion of the Charles Wyly Athletic Center and a new 90,000 square feet Intramural Sports Arena.
