Adjacent to several engineering academic buildings on the east side of Louisiana Tech’s campus, Legacy Park provides residences for a significant number of the incoming Freshman
class engineering majors on campus. In contrast to other Freshman dormitories, the accommodations at Legacy Park promote a more independent residential experience with four students sharing semi-private bedrooms, living areas, washer/dryer, and kitchens. Students on the first floor even have independent access to their apartments through covered stoop entries with built-in seating walls, creating an active urban presence at the sidewalk edge.

The carefully curated material palette is composed of simple and durable selections, with an eye to well-considered craftsmanship. A variety of brick coursework activates the
building elevations. Exposed concrete balconies and landings slip past porous three-story brick screens at each stair. An overlapping pattern of zinc panels wrap the bay windows, while galvanized columns and guardrails are delicately detailed at the balconies.

The buildings form two landscaped commons that flank each side of an entry into campus. At each building, a trellised entry patio with board-formed concrete benches provides
exterior social space and supports community activities among the Common’s residents. The buildings are bookended by two-story townhouses at the upper floors with zinc panel clad bay windows that connect the two-story living spaces. At dusk, with the motorized shades down, the bays become a string of lanterns across the two commons.
